Worcester State University senior guard Julie Frankian is the NEWBA/Prestosports Player of the Week for February 23.  Frankian averaged 25.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 1.5 steals in a 2-0 week for Worcester State including 26 points, six boards and two swipes in a 61-48 win over Fitchburg State before she notched 24 points with six caroms and four trifectas in a 74-50 victory over Framingham State. Hit .485 of her shots for the week (14-29), .375 from long distance (9-24) and went .842 from the line (16-19) helping the Lancers clinch a home game in opening round of next weeks MASCAC Tournament.

Emerson College freshman Eastin Ashby earns the NEWBA Rookie of the Week award for February 23.  Ashby led the Lions to the final NEWMAC playoff berth by averaging 20.5 points and three assists.  She scored 23 points against Wheaton, then added 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals against Clark.

  • Amanda Hawkesworth, Regis College (MA) (So., F, Abington, Mass.) - Hawkesworth started and played in three games for the Pride this past week. She averaged 16.3 points on 46.9% shooting, 9.7 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Against Lesley on February 17th, Hawkesworth scored 19 points on 53.8% shooting, she also snagged nine rebounds, handed out four assists and made two steals. Hawkesworth recorded two double-doubles during the three game stretch the first coming on February 19th at Wheelock (14 points, 10 rebounds) and versus Southern Vermont (16 points, 10 rebounds). 
  • Angelica Ariola, Roger Williams University (Jr., G, Prospect, Conn.) -  Ariola led the Hawks to a pair of wins, averaging 17 points and shooting 67% from three point range.  Against Gordon College, she tossed in 15 points, and passed out three assists, then added 19 points, including the 1000th of her career, against regionally ranked UNE.
  • Jill Ritrosky, Eastern Connecticut State University (Jr., F, Pittsfield, Mass.) - Ritrosky led Eastern to two wins last week and a share of its first Little East Conference regular-season title in six years and the tournament’s No. 1 seed. Ritrosky averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in victories over Western Connecticut State University and the University of Southern Maine. Ritrosky shot 50.0 percent from the floor and 76.5 percent (13-of-17) from the foul line. Against Western, Ritrosky led all players with a career-high 28 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. Against the Colonials, she was 10-of-18 from the floor and 8-of-11 from the foul line.
  • Aliah Curry, Norwich University (Sr., G, Winsor, Mass.) -  Curry had a stellar week for the Norwich University women's basketball team. Curry averaged 24 points per game, shooting 41.4 percent from the floor and a perfect 9.5-of-9.5 from the stripe in the two games played. Curry opened the week scoring 16 points and three assists to go along with the three rebounds in the Cadets' 79-59 victory over Simmons College. Curry would close out the week tying a season high 32 points, hitting all 11 free throws, and two assists with six rebounds in the Cadets' 77-63 victory over Lasell College.
  • Sabrina Drammis, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Jr., G, Hilton Head Island, S.C.) - In a 1-1 week for MIT, Sabrina Drammis totaled 24 points, 35 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks. She collected a game-high 16 rebounds to go along with 11 points, and three blocks in a 53-31 win over Wellesley on Wednesday. Drammis then led all players with 13 points and 19 rebounds in addition to grabbing three steals in a 58-55 loss at Coast Guard on Saturday. She also surpassed the 1,000-point mark, becoming the seventh player in MIT history and first since 1999 to accomplish this feat.

  • Mount Holyoke's Kate Karraker became the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
