University of New England head coach Anthony Ewing earns the 2014 NEWBA Coach of the Year honors after leading the Nor'easters to the NCAA tournament for the fourth time in five seasons.  UNE's seventh year skipper has a 154-48 (.762) career record, and over the last three seasons, the Nor'easters are 74-14 (.841).  This season, Ewing's team established a new school record for wins (27), and the program's first ever national ranking.  UNE has advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship in each of the last two years.

Already a three time Commonwealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year, Ewing has a degree in physical education with a concentration in sport management from Keene State College.

Roger Williams' Kaitlyn Bovee ends a banner season with the 2014 NEWBA/Prestosports Player of the Year award.  The all-time leading scorer in Hawks history, Bovee was named the 2014 Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference Player while leading the team to its first ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Bovee scored in double-digits in 24 of 28 games this year, averaging 16.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game while shooting 44% from the floor and 81.2% from the free throw line.  The Hawks won a school record 22 games this year, and advanced to the CCC championship game for the first time in school history.

Megan Ronaghan of UMass-Dartmouth caps a fine rookie season by winning the NEWBA/Prestosports Rookie of the Year award.  Already the Little East Conference Rookie of the Year, Ronaghan was also named the LEC First Team, starting 25 of 26 games for the Corsairs.

Ronaghan averaged 13.8 points and 6.2 rebounds for UMass-Dartmouth, blocking 1.3 shots per game and knocking down 82.3% of her free throws.  

 

All-Region First Team
  • Kelly Coleman, University of New England (Jr., F, Portland, Conn.) - The Nor'easter's leading scorer, Coleman picked up her 1000th career point against Wentworth on February 25.  An All-CCC player the last two seasons, Coleman was at her best in big games, netting 32 points in a NCAA Tournament first round win against New York University.
  • Meredith Kelly, Bates College (Sr., G, Cohasset, Mass.) - One of the nation's leading scorers, Kelly was picked the the NESCAC All-Conference First Team and was named the NESCAC Defensive Player of the Year.  Kelly scored 20 points or more 15 times this season, with a 42 point effort against Maine-Augusta being the high for the season.  She also averaged 2.8 steals per game, including six contests with four or more steals.  
  • Hannah Brickley, Trinity College (CT) (Sr., F, Melrose, Mass.) - Brickley was the 2014 NESCAC Player of the Year this season, averaging 14.0 points and 8.2 rebounds and shooting 47.6% from the floor.  Brickley scored in double-figures 17 times this season, including a 28 points effort against Colby College on February 1.
  • Alyssa Leonard, Castleton State College (Sr., G, Amherst, Mass.) - The North Atlantic Conference Player of the Year, Leonard was a First Team All-Conference Player after finishing third in the NAC in scoring and assists.  The senior guard helped the Spartans to the round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament, and is the only player in school history with at least 1000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists.
  • Kaitlyn Bovee, Roger Williams University (Sr., G, Berlin, Conn.) - Bovee was named NEWBA Player of the Year after scoring 16.4 points per game and grabbing 8.6 rebounds per game and leading the Hawks to their first ever NCAA tournament appearance.  Bovee was also named the Commonwealth Coast Conference Player of the Year.

All-Region Second Team
  • Vandell Andrade, Rhode Island College (So., F, Providence, R.I.) - The only sophomore All-Region player, Andrade was the Little East Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, leading the league in rebounding (12.1 rpg) and shooting percentage (57%).  She posted 17 double-doubles and reached double-digits in scoring 21 times, while pouring in at least 20 points on five separate occasions.
  • Ellen Cook, Williams College (Sr., G, Eugene, Ore.) - Cook was selected 1st Team All-NESCAC. She was a co-captain and led the Ephs in scoring (13.9 ppg), assists (3.9), steals (2.5) and minutes played (34.). She was always given the toughest defensive assignment as well, and was second in blocks (1.5) and third in rebounding (5.7). 
  • Rosa Drummond, Smith College (Sr., F, Rye, N.H.)A NEWMAC 1st Team selection, Drummond was Smith's team leader in points, rebounds, three point FG% and field goals made this season. She has scored double figures in 22 games and led Smith in rebounding seventeen times. She has scored 1,441 points and has tied the all-time leading scorer for games played at Smith.
  • Rachael Carter, Salem State University (Jr., G, Merrimack, N.H.) - The current MASCAC Player of the Year, Carter averaged 21.6 points per game and never failed to score in double-figures this season.   She went over 20 points on 15 different occasions, including 32 in the MASCAC tournament against Framingham State.  Carter also pulled down 8.3 rebounds and passed out 3.0 assists per game for the Vikings.
  • Sara Binkhorst, Bowdoin College (Jr., G, West Hartford, Conn.) - Also a first team All-NESCAC nod, Binkhorst knocked down 40 percent of her three point attempts on the way to averaging 13.1 points per game for the Polar Bears.  During conference play, she upped her game, increasing her scoring average to 16 points per contest.  She also handed out 2.5 assists per game and had 1.1 steals per game.
