NEWBA Names Award Winners For December 12

Collins Babson College junior center Sarah Collins has earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week award as a result of her dominant play during the week of December 5-11. Collins piled up 19.5 points and 14.0 rebounds per game in a 2-0 week for the nationally-ranked Beavers. She knocked down 58.3% (14-24) of her shots from the field and 73.3% (11-15) of her free throw attempts. The center also chipped in with seven assists, seven blocked shots and six steals. Her first double-double of the week came in a 66-39 victory over Wellesley College on Tuesday. In addition to scorching the Blue for 20 points, she also chipped in with 13 boards, four blocks and three assists. Collins came up with another huge game on Friday, when Babson rolled to an 82-42 victory over Wellesley College. This time she finished with 19 points, 15 rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks. The Beavers have now defeated NEWMAC foes 49 straight times.

Parks Elms College first year forward Denisha Parks has earned the NEWBA Rookie of the Week award for the week of November December 5-11 after racking up 24,5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game in wins over Mitchell College and Lesley Unuversity. Parks converted 54.8% (17-31) of her shots from the floor and 83.3% (15-18) of her free throws. She got things going with 29 points and eight rebounds in a 68-58 triumph over Mitchell on Tuesday. Four days later, the forward tallied 20 points and nine rebounds to lead the Blazers to a 73-29 victory over Lesley. This is the second straight week that Parks has earned the NEWBA Rookie of the Week award.

  • Kelly Slattery, Springfield College (Sr, F, Somers, Conn.) - Slattery led the Pride to a pair of conference wins with her 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. After recording a double-double on 16 points and 11 boards in her team's 54-46 victory at Smith College on Tuesday, she scored the game-winning basket in their 41-40 triumph at WPI on Friday. The forward finished the game with 14 points and eight rebounds.
  • Jill Henrikson, Bowdoin College (Sr, G, Bath, Maine) - Henrikson racked up 22.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game in a perfect 3-0 week for the Polar Bears. She knocked down 63.3% (19-30) of her shots from the field and 95.5% (21-22) of her free throw attempts. The guard drained four shots from beyond the arc en route to 28 points in her team's 83-59 victory over Emerson College on Saturday. 
  • Beth Suggs, University of New England (Jr, F, Bath, Maine) - Suggs collected 14 points, 17 rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocked shots to boost the Nor'Easters to a 70-63 triumph over nationally-ranked Colby College on Tuesday. She was also impressive in her team's 55-38 win over St. Joseph's College, recording 14 points and eight rebounds. Over the course of the week, she averaged a double-double.
  • Cynthia Gaudet, Rhode Island College (Sr, G, Coventry, R.I.) - Gaudet racked up 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.3 steals in a perfect 2-0 week for the Anchorwomen. The guard knocked down 52.4% (11-21) of her shots from the field and 76.2% (16-21) of her free throws. She erupted for 26 points, six assists and five boards in a 78-52 triumph over Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
  • Jen Wehner, Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (Sr, F, Cooperstown, N.Y.) - Wehner averaged a double-double on 15.3 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Trailblazers. She was at her best on Friday, when she racked up 19 points and 13 boards against Hartwick College. The forward finished the week with 15 blocked shots.

  • Regis College senior guard Stephanie Crawford became the 12th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau, when she erupted for 25 points in a 77-57 victory over Daniel Webster College on Saturday.
