Perks leads MCLA past Fitchburg 75-65

North Adams, MA- North Adams, MA- MCLA senior Hilary Perks scored a career high 20 points and the Trailblazers placed four players in double figures as they held off conference foe Fitchburg State University 75-65 this afternoon.  With the win, MCLA is now 11-5 (3-1 MASCAC) while the Falcons fall to 8-7 (2-2 MASCAC).  The Trailblazers have now won four straight games.

MCLA broke open a tight game with a powerful second half run.  With the score standing at 55-52 in favor of the hosts, MCLA went on a 12-2 run to push the lead to 13 with 5:44 remaining.  The Falcons would not go quietly though, chipping away at the lead.  They eventually cut the margin to five on a pair of Amy Fahey free throws, but could not get any closer. 

The first half opened up as a seesaw affair.  Fitchburg took command early using a 7-0 run for a 17-9 lead at the 10:42 mark.  MCLA would respond with a run of their own, outscoring the Falcons 13-2 over the next four minutes to take a 22-19 lead.  MCLA would open up a five point lead on a few occasions before Fitchburg battled back to knot the game at 32 at the half.

Perks finished her day with 20 points and five assists.  Jen Wehner had a double double collecting 17 points and 12 rebounds while adding six blocks.  Joining them in double figures were Lucy Tremblay with 14 points and five assists.  Courtney Terzi added 12 points off the bench.

For the Falcons, they were led by Melissa Proffitt's 12 points while battling foul trouble throughout the game.  Jill Moses added 11 points and Amy Fahey had 10 points.

MCLA shared the ball nicely in the second half as on their 13 made field goals they collected 12 assists. 

MCLA will face Bridgewater State in a key MASCAC matchup Wednesday night in Bridgewater.
