NEWBA Announces Weekly Awards for February 12

Sanders posted a trio of double-doubles while averaging 24.3 points, 13.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 2.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Nighthawks. After recording 12 points and ten boards in Tuesday's 56-37 win at Bay Path, she broke Newbury's program scoring record with a  38-point, 18-rebound, 3-steal performance on Thursday in a 79-60 victory over Elms. Sanders capped her week with 23 points, 11 rebounds and three assists on Saturday as the Nighthawks fell on the road to New England College, 82-72. Sanders shot 56.6 percent from the field for the week.

Freshman • Forward • Andover, Conn.

In her seventh and eighth straight starts of the season, Barry averaged 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game in a pair of Little East Conference wins for the Warriors. She shot 12-of-18 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the foul line over the two games. In a 59-52 road win over Southern Maine on Wednesday, Barry registered her first career double-double with career-highs of 15 points and 11 rebounds. She followed that up with 14 points and seven boards on Saturday in a 79-61 victory over Western Connecticut.

  • Kailyn Aguiar, Bridgewater State (Senior | Forward | Acushnet, Mass.) - Aguiar notched a pair of double-doubles while averaging 17 points, 13.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Bears. She finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds and three assists in Wednesday's 56-41 win at Salem State. Aguair then had 18 points, 16 boards, three assists and three steals on Saturday in a 70-51 triumph over Framingham State. 
  • Charlie Boyle, Emerson (Senior | Forward | Scotts Valley, Calif.) - Boyle's big offensive performance helped Emerson earn an 89-84, triple overtime victory over Springfield on Wednesday. She made 15-of-20 field goals and 6-of-7 from the free throw line on her way to a 36-point effort as the Lions defeated the Pride for the first time in program history. Boyle averaged 22.5 points (on 70.4% shooting) and 5.0 rebounds per game for the week. 
  • Nakira Examond, UMass Dartmouth (Senior | Forward | New Bedford, Mass.) - Examond averaged a double-double with 22.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Corsairs. She made 11-of-14 field goals, finishing with 27 points and eight boards on Monday in a 110-83 win at Western Connecticut. Examond totaled 19 points, 12 rebounds and two steals in Wednesday's 77-65 victory over Rhode Island College, before wrapping up the week with 20 points, 14 boards and two assists on Saturday in an 89-87 setback at Plymouth State. She shot 55.8 percent from the field for the week. 
  • Emily Irwin, Curry (Senior | Guard | Billerica, Mass.) - Irwin averaged 18 points, 7.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 4.0 steals per game in a 2-0 week for Curry. The senior captain began the week with 15 points on 7-of-18 shooting and added eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists in a 63-42 victory over Gordon. She then rounded out the week with 21 points, seven rebounds, seven assists, and one steal in a 73-57 win at Wentworth.
  • Kelsi McNamara, St. Joseph's (Maine) (Senior | Guard | West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara led the Monks to a pair of GNAC wins last week with averages of 23.5 points, 7.5 assists, 3.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game. She poured in 30 points and added eight assists, three steals, three rebounds and two blocks in a 79-69 win over Emmanuel on Tuesday. McNamara then scored 17 points to go with seven assists, three boards and two steals on Sunday in a 76-54 victory over Maine-Fort Kent.
