NEWBA Announces Weekly Awards for Feb. 6

Junior guard Kristin Fechtelkotter of Williams College is the Presto Sports NEWBA Player of the Week for games played from January 30-February 5. Fechtelkotter averaged 19.3 points on 51% shooting, 12.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.7 steals per game in a 2-1 week for the Ephs. She opened the week with 29 points on 14-of-21 shooting to go with 25 rebounds, five assists and four blocks in a 91-70 win over Westfield State on Monday. Fechtelkotter followed that up with 11 points, five boards, three steals and two assists on Friday in a 65-60 victory at Wesleyan, before capping the week with 18 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks in a 68-63 loss to Connecticut College on Sunday.

Freshman • Forward • Cromwell, Conn.

Freshman forward Mya Villard of Eastern Connecticut State University earns NEWBA Rookie of the Week honors after making the first three starts of her career and helping lead the Warriors to a 2-1 record.  Villard averaged a double-double with 12.0 points and 11.3 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5% from the field. In a 66-56 non-conference road victory at Western New England on Thursday, she posted her first career double-double with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. Villard followed that up two days later in a 60-47 LEC road win over Plymouth State University with seven points and 11 rebounds.

  • Stephanie D'Annolfo, Keene State (Sr., F, Tyngsborough, Mass.) -  D'Annolfo led Keene State to a 2-0 week and to the Owls' third consecutive victory. Across the two games, she went 9-for-19 (47.4%) from the field and averaged 11.0 points with 8.5 rebounds. In a non-conference matchup against Middlebury, the senior scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds. In a Little East Conference contest versus Southern Maine, D'Annolfo tallied her fourth double-double on the season in a near triple-double with 10 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. 
  • Maria Jackson, Brandeis (Sr., C, Rochester, N.Y.) - Jackson paced the Judges to a 1-1 week against UAA opponents by averaging a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds per game on 50 percent shooting from the field. She also averaged 4.5 steals, 2.5 blocks ad 1.5 assists per contest. In a 61-59 win over Emory, she had a game and career-high 22 points and team-high eight rebounds, beating the buzzer on an offensive rebound to give the Judges a dramatic win. She also had three steals, two blocks and two assists. In a 77-65 loss to the University of Rochester, she added her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and a game-high 12 rebounds, along with a career-best six steals, three blocked shots and one assist. 
  • Alicia Kutil, UMass Dartmouth (Jr., F, Franklin, Mass.) - Kutil averaged 20 points and 10 rebounds in two wins for UMass Dartmout last week as the Corsairs extended their winning streak to seven games. She dropped 25 points with 16 rebounds in OT win against Regis last Tuesday, including the first five points of the OT period. Kutil then added 15 points with four boards in the Corsairs' win at Western Connecticut on Saturday.
  • Raegan Mulherin, Framingham State (Jr., G, Baldwinville, Mass.) - Mulherin averaged 19 points, 8 boards and 4.5 assists per game while shooting 56% from long range in a 2-0 week for the Rams. She scored 19 points, including the 1,000th of her career in a 60-42 win over Bridgewater State on Wednesday. Mulherin followed that up with, 19 points, nine boards, seven assists and two steals in a 75-71 victory over Westfield State on Saturday. She hit a three-pointer in the final minute to break a tie score that would prove to be the game winner against the Owls to force a tie atop the MASCAC standings. 
  • Taylor V'Dovec, MIT (So., G, Blaine, Wash.)In a 2-0 week for MIT, V'Dovec averaged 17.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while shooting 52 percent from the floor. In a non-conference 69-54 win over Wesleyan on Tuesday, she posted her second double-double of the season with a team-high 13 points and game-high 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of action. V'Dovec followed that up by leading the Engineers with 22 points and nine boards in an 83-70 victory against NEWMAC foe Smith on Saturday.
