Tufts University junior forward Michela North is the NEWBA/Prestosports Player of the Week for February 8.  North led the Jumbos to a perfect week by averaging 16 points and nine rebounds while shooting 57.1% from the field.  Against Rhode Island College, North had 16 points while shooting 7-for-9 from the field.  After adding 10 points and nine rebounds against Trinity (CT), North had 16 more points and 11 boards against Amherst, including what proved to be the game winning shot with 36 seconds remaining to end previously undefeated Amherst's 121 game home winning streak.

Newbury College freshman Savannah Olsen is the NEWBA Rookie of the Week for February 8.  Averaging 20.0 points per game, Olsen guided the Nighthawks to a 1-1 week which included sweeping the season-series against NECC foe Lesley University early in the week. Against the Lynx, Olsen netted a career single-game best 30 points, shooting 68.4% (13-19) from the field in addition to posting her sixth double-double of the season pulling down 13 rebounds.. She closed out the week reaching double figures, registering 10 points against the undefeated Pride, Saturday afternoon.

  • Chelsea Newman, Mitchell College (Sr., F, Manchester, Conn.) - Newman kept the Mariners undefeated last week, averaging 15 points, nine rebounds, and 4.3 steals and shooting 59% from the field.  Against Bay Path, Newman had 17 points, nine rebounds, and four steals, then added 15 points and eight boards against Daniel Webster.  She capped the week with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and seven steals against Southern Vermont.
  • Megan Ronaghan, UMass Dartmouth (Jr., F, North Attleboro, Mass.) - Ronaghan averaged 24.5 points and 10 rebounds in a 1-1 week for the Corsairs.  She had 20 points and 16 rebounds in a 67-51 win over Regis College, then added 29 points with three steals and two blocks against Western Connecticut State.  Ronaghan shot 64% (18-for-28) and 77% (13-for-17) from the free throw line.
  • Jill Ritrosky, Eastern Connecticut State University (Sr., G, Pittsfield, Mass.) - Ritrosky averaged 17.0 points and 10.5 rebounds in a 2-0 week which included a 59-51 midweek road win over No. 22 Connecticut College and a 76-46 Little East Conference home win Saturday over Plymouth State University. Against Conn, Ritrosky had five points and seven rebounds to help Eastern move out to a 16-point, 26-10 lead after one quarter and finished with a game-high 19 points and 14 rebounds - her 13th double-double of the season. Against Plymouth, Ritrosky had 15 points, seven rebounds, three steals, two assists and a blocked shot, and was 7-of-11 from the floor. 
  • Amanni Fernandez, Williams College (So., G, Queens, N.Y.) - Fernandez led the Ephs to a pair of wins last week, with 12.5 points, 8.5 assists, and 2.5 steals on average for the week.  Fernandez had 11 points, 10 assists, and two steals in a non-conference win over Westfield State, then had 14 points, seven assists, and three steals, and the go-ahead free throws with three seconds left against Wesleyan.
  • Brittany Stone, Regis College (Mass.) (So., F, West Bridgewater, Mass.) - Stone was a crucial cog of Regis' 2-1 record last week. For the second time this season, Stone averaged a double-double; 18.3 points and 10 rebounds over a three game stretch. The sophomore forward converted 67.6% (25-of-37) of her field goal attempts and averaged 3.0 blocks a game. Her best game of the week came on Saturday against Newbury when she chalked up 20 points on 8-of-11 (72.7%) shooting, grabbed 10 caroms and blocked two shots in the 85-55 Pride victory.
