NEWBA Kicks Off 2015-16 With First Weekly Awards

Wheaton College senior Kiley Shoemaker is the first NEWBA/Prestosports Player of the Week for 2015-16.  In four games to open the season, Shoemaker averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 50.7% from the floor.  In a win against Newbury, she pulled down a program record 24 rebounds and scored a career high 28 points.

Middlebury College
Freshman • Center • Duxbury, Mass.

Harrison started off her career by averaging 16 points and 12 rebounds in two Middlebury wins, including a block on one end and a basket at the other that gave the Panthers a win against Hartwick.

Honor Roll
  • Alanna Vose, University of New England (Sr., G, Cushing, Maine) - Vose matched a career-high with 29 in the season-opener versus Southern Maine, shooting 54% on the week and 45% from deep with a team-high 5.5 rebounds.
  • Heather LeBlanc, Norwich (Jr., F, Sanford, Maine) - LeBlanc averaged 18.5 points and 14.0 rebounds while shooting 65.2% (15-23) from the floor. She had a pair of double-doubles at the Battle of the Castle tip-off tournament, registering 20 points and 16 rebounds a 62-49 win over Washington before putting up 17 points and 12 boards in a 70-65 win over Manhattanville to earn Tournament MVP honors.
  • Marjani Lillard, New England College (Jr., G, Bowie, Md.) - Lillard averaged 16.3 points per game, 9 rebounds per game and 4.7 assists per game over three victories this week for the Pilgrims. Lillard was named the Gordon College Thanksgiving Tournament Most Valuable Player helping to hand Gordon their first loss of the season totaling 26 points, 15 rebounds and six assists in the win. Lillard shot 48% from the field this week in addition to averaging four steals per game.
  • Chelsea Vujs, Western New England University (Sr., F, Berlin, Conn.) - Vujs has averaged 17.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game over Western New England's first four contests this season. She opened her senior campaign with her 27th career double-double, recording 16 points, 13 rebounds and three steals in a 74-50 win at St. Joseph, before breaking out for 26 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals on Saturday as the Golden Bears defeated Westfield State 90-85 in their home opener. 
  • Jill Ritosky, Eastern Connecticut State University (Sr., F, Pittsfield, Mass.) - In the Warriors' only game of the week, senior forward Ritrosky had 18 points and eight rebounds in a 67-62 victory over Emmanuel College last Tuesday. Ritrosky sparked a run of 15 straight points over four minutes that helped the Warriors overcome an eight-point deficit and move out to a seven-point lead with 2:30 left. Ritrosky had eight points in the run, her inside basket finally tying the game for Eastern, 40-40, with five minutes left.
