Collins Babson College senior center Sarah Collins has earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week award as a result of her dominant play during the opening two weeks of the season. Collins helped 22nd-ranked Babson get off to a quick 4-0 start, averaging 18.8 points, 15.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks per game while shooting 50.0 percent (34-68) from the field in the Beavers' first four contests. She was named Most valuable Player of the Babson Invitational Tournament on November 17 after averaging 24.0 points, 17.0 boards, and 2.5 blocks in victories over Framingham State and Rhode Island College. She then recorded 11 points and 17 rebounds in a 58-57 win over Brandeis this past Tuesday before closing out her string of four straight double-doubles with 16 points and 12 caroms in a 68-52 victory over Salem State on Sunday.

 MIT freshman forward Maya Ramachandran earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Rookie of the Week Award after an outstanding start to her collegiate career. Ramachandran nearly posted a triple-double in her intercollegiate debut as she racked up 19 rebounds, 14 points, eight blocks, and four steals in a 66-55 loss to Salem State. The next day, she totaled 15 boards, 11 points, seven blocks, and five assists in a 74-51 win over Bates while picking up Salem State Tip Off Tournament All-Tournament honors. Ramachandran compiled 18 rebounds, six points, four blocks, and two assists in a 48-46 loss to Endicott last Tuesday. She closed the week by recording six points, three rebounds, and one block in 21 minutes off the bench in a 61-43 win over Emerson.

  • Denisha Parks, Elms College (So., F, Fall River, Mass.) - Through the first three games of the 2012-13 season, Blazers' sophomore forward Denisha Parks has averaged a double-double of 19.7 points and 13.0 rebounds per game including a 30-point effort in Elms' first victory of the season - a 76-56 triumph over Anna Maria College on Nov. 19.
  • Ellen Cook, Williams College (So., G, Eugene, Ore.) - Cook led the Ephs to a 4-0 start by averaging 11.2 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game.  Cook scored 10 points with eight rebounds and four assists in a season opening win over Salve Regina, and added 17 points, seven rebuonds, and four blocked shots in a 43-31 win over Springfield College.
  • Beth Suggs, University of New England (Sr, F, Bath, Maine) - Hauled in a career-best 22 rebounds, to go with 16 points, in UNE's season-opening win over Wellesley. The performance was the fourth-highest single-game performance in program history and the most by a UNE player since the 1993-94 season. She recorded another double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in UNE's 40-point win over Bowdoin. She also shot 83% from the floor to help the Nor'easters defeat the Polar Bears for the first time in the last 18 meetings.
  • Gabby Felix, Westfield State University (So, C, Springfield, Mass.) - Felix scored in double-figures in all three games to open the season, shooting 51.5% from the floor.   She also recorded double-doubles with 17 points and 12 rebounds against Castleton state and 18 points and 11 boards against Mount Ida, the latter coming in just 18 minutes of action.
  • Erika Bornemann, UMass-Dartmouth (Jr, F, Canton, Mass.) - Bornemann averaged a double double in the Corsairs' first three games, scoring 14.3 points and 12 rebounds per game.  She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the UMass Dartmouth Basketball Classic, and hit the winning three-point basket with eight seconds left as the Corsairs came from behind last Tuesday to defeat Worcester State.
