NEWBA Unveils Award Winners for February 6

DeSanty Junior guard Taylor DeSanty has earned the  NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week Award after leading Colby-Sawyer to a three straight North Atlantic Conference wins on the road. DeSanty piled up 28.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while converting 52.7% (2-55) of her shots from the field and 90.5% (19-21) of her free throws. The guard exploded for a program record 38 points in her team's 75-52 triumph over the University of Maine Farmington on Friday. She went 13-of-18 from the floor, netted all nine of her free throws and knocked down three shots from beyond the arc. DeSanty continued her hot shooting the following day, draining five three-pointers en route to 28 points in Colby-Sawyer's 101-80 victory over Thomas College. The junior scored 19 points in a 65-46 win over New England College on Tuesday.

Parks First year forward Denisha Parks has earned the NEWBA Rookie of the Week Award after racking up 23.0 points and 17.0 rebounds per game for Elms College. Parks knocked down 42.1% (16-38) of her shots from the floor and 77.8% (14-18) of her free throws. The forward notched her first double-double of the week in a thrilling 63-61 triumph over Daniel Webster College on Thursday. In addition to posting 20 points, she also chipped in with 13 rebounds. Two days later, she erupted for 26 points and 21 boards in her team's 77-63 setback at Newbury College. This is the fourth time this season that Parks has been named NEWBA Rookie of the Week.

  • Jil Vaughan, Colby College (Sr, F, Wareham, Mass.) - Vaughan averaged 17.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Mules. The forward knocked down 64.7% (23-34) of her shots from the field and posted a pair of double-doubles. She posted 21 points, 10 boards and four blocked shots against the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday.  
  • Sarah Collins, Babson College (Jr, C, Weymouth, Mass.) - Collins averaged a double-double on 20.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in a perfect 2-0 week for the nationally-ranked Beavers. She recorded 20 points, nine rebounds, five blocked shots and four assists in her team's 76-43 victory over Wellesley College on Wednesday. In the process, she became the 15th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
  • Emily Savino, Western New England University (Jr, G, Ellington, Conn.) - Savino racked up 22.0 points per game in a perfect 3-0 week for the Bears. The sharpshooter knocked down 56.4% (22-39) of her shots from the field and 92.9% (13-14) of her free throws. She buried nine three pointers and also chipped in with 5.7 rebounds per outing. Savino scored 26 points in wins over Salve Regina University and Endicott College. 
  • Michaela Cosby, Bridgewater State University (Jr, F, Walpole, Mass.) - Cosby amassed 21.0 points per game to lead the Bears to three straight wins. The forward exploded for a career-best 29 points in her team's 72-67 victory over Western Connecticut State University on Thursday. Over the course of the week, she drained 59.5% (22-37) of her shots from the floor and 76.0% (19-25) of her free throws.
  • Jill Henrikson, Bowdoin College (Sr, G, Bath, Maine) - Henrikson tallied 22.3 points and 7.7 rebounds per game in a 2-1 week for the Polar Bears. She was nearly unstoppable in her team's 64-45 triumph over Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday, when she collected 25 points, nine boards and nine steals. The guard netted five shots from beyond the arc in the contest. She registered a double-double on 25 points and 10 rebounds against Williams College on Saturday.

  • Catherine O'Connell, Newbury College - O'Connell pulled down her 1,000th career rebound in a 79-59 win over Mitchell College on Thursday.
  • Cynthia Gaudet, Rhode Island College - Gaudet surpassed the 1,000-point milestone in her team's 62-41 triumph over Tufts University on Tuesday.
