Connecticut College first year forward Tara Gabelman has earned the NEWBA/PrestoSports Player of the Week award for the time period of December 13 - January 9. Tara Gabelman Gabelman averaged a double-double on 18.4 points and 12.2 rebounds per game in a perfect 5-0 month for the Camels. She knocked down 50.0% (38-76) of her shots from the field and 72.7% (16-22) of her free throw attempts. Gabelman recorded double-doubles in all five of her team's wins. The first of those came in a 75-54 victory over Mitchell College, when she amassed 22 points and 10 boards. The forward then guided Connecticut College to a pair of wins at the New York University New Year's Classic. After totaling 20 points and 14 rebounds in the Camels' 69-42 win over the New York City College of Technology on January 3, she tallied 14 points and 11 boards in their thrilling 71-70 overtime triumph over the host Violets the next day. She was named to the tournament's All-Classic Team as a result of her performance. Gabelman was at it again in her team's 65-60 victory over Eastern Nazarene College on Thursday, when she collected 20 points and 11 rebounds. Her 16-point, 15-board effort two days later pushed the Camels past Johnson and Wales University by a score of 61-40. Gabelman has registered eight double-doubles over the first 13 games of her collegiate career.

Smith College first year center Rosa Drummond has earned the NEWBA Rookie of the Week award for the time period of December 13 - January 9. Rosa Drummond Drummond racked up 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in leading the Pioneers to a pair of NEWMAC wins. She converted 40.0% (10-25) of her shots from the floor and 90.0% (9-10) of her free throw tries. She was at her best on Wednesday, when she boosted Smith to a 60-52 victory over Wellesley College. She recorded a double-double in the contest, scoring 18 points and pulling down a career best 14 boards. Wellesley entered the game with an undefeated record in league play. Drummond totaled 13 points and nine boards in her team's 54-38 win over MIT on Saturday. Over the course of the week, she posted three blocks and three steals.

  • Courtney Cochran, University of Southern Maine (Jr, F, Waite, Maine) - Cochran averaged a double-double on 14.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game in leading the University of Southern Maine to a 2-2 record over the last month. She recorded double-doubles in three of those contests. After tallying 17 points and 12 boards against Occidental College on December 30, she piled up 15 points, 15 rebounds and a career best seven blocked shots against Chapman University the following day. Cochran led the Huskies to a 67-62 victory over Husson University on Wednesday, when she registered 15 points and 16 rebounds.
  • Nicole Wurdeman (Jr, F, Rowley, Mass.) - Wurdeman enjoyed a dominant month for nationally ranked Babson College. The forward averaged 18.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per outing, as the Beavers improved to 12-0 on the season. She converted 53.6% (30-56) of her shots from the field, including 43.8% (7-16) from beyond the arc. Wurdeman was at her best just before the holiday break, when she led her team to a pair of victories at the Las Vegas Hoopla. After totaling 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 73-59 win over Roanoke College on December 19, she recorded 24 points and 14 boards in a 61-50 triumph over previously unbeaten SUNY Oneonta.
  • Jules Kowalski, Colby College (Sr, F, Montville, N.J.) - Kowalski averaged a double-double on 13.8 points and 10.2 rebounds per game in a 3-1 month for Colby College. She was named to the ECAC Holiday Festival All-Tournament Team after leading the Mules to decisive victories over Salem State College (98-66) and Castleton State College (63-37). In her team's win over Salem State on January 1, she tallied 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the floor and also pulled down nine boards. Kowalski later led Colby to a 98-51 triumph over Thomas College on January 8, when she registered a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Stephanie Coro, Rhode Island College (Jr, G, North Providence, R.I.) - Coro continued to score points in bunches for Rhode Island College, which now owns a 10-2 overall record. The guard averaged 22.0 points per game in leading the Anchorwomen to a pair of victories. After totaling 14 points in a 77-62 win over Roger Williams University on Thursday, she exploded for 30 points in a 68-56 triumph over Keene State College on Saturday. Over the course of the two contests, Coro drained eight three-pointers and was perfect in eight chances at the charity stripe.
  • Christine Daniels, Norwich University (Sr, F, Concord, N.H.) - Daniels racked up 17.7 points, 15.8 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.3 steals per game in a 3-1 month for Norwich University. She has recorded double-doubles in each of the Cadets' first 12 games this season and currently is the national leader in the category. The forward was at her best in her team's 80-76 triumph over Lyndon State College on Thursday, when she erupted for a career best 31 points.
