Women's Basketball Defeats Johnson State 92-45 for Third Straight Win

NEW LONDON, N.H. – December 1, 2012 – The Colby-Sawyer College women's basketball team had five players reach double-figures in Saturday's 92-45 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory over Johnson State.

Colby-Sawyer has won three straight to improve to 3-3 overall and 2-0 in the NAC. The Chargers have held opponents to 27% or less shooting from the floor in all three wins. Johnson falls to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play.

The Chargers jumped out to a 22-6 lead in the first five minutes of the game with sophomore Kelsey Cahill (Cumberland, R.I.) and senior Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) each scoring eight points in that stretch. Colby-Sawyer held a comfortable lead throughout the first frame and had their largest lead of 39 at the break 59-20.

Colby-Sawyer continued to control play in the second half and pushed its lead to 53 at the 6:36 mark.

The Chargers outrebounded Johnson 72-32 and held a 28-0 edge in second chance points. The 72 rebounds is the fourth most in school history.

DeSanty led all players with 20 points, while Cahill and senior Cailin Bullett (Millbury, Mass.) finished with 14 points apiece. Bullett added a game-high nine assists and seven rebounds. Freshman Alyssa Keefe (Littleton, N.H.) recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a game best 13 rebounds. She added a game-high three blocks. Junior Ashley Fruzzetti (Raynham, Mass.) was the fifth Charger in double-figures with 10 points. Senior Haley Gisonno (Georgetown, Mass.) pulled down a career-high 11 rebounds, while sophomore Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) added eight points and nine rebounds.

Johnson was led by freshman Mary Richardson (Vernon, Vt.). She scored 11 points and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Sophomore Brittany Robertson (Burlington, Vt.) also reached double-figures with 10 points. She added five rebounds and four assists.

Colby-Sawyer hosts Suffolk on Tuesday, December 4 at 7:00 pm, while the Badgers travel to Middlebury on Thursday, December 6 for a 5:00 pm tip.
