Box Score

DUDLEY, Mass. – Senior Hayley Zophin (Framingham, Mass.) recorded her 15th double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds in Nichols College's 66-39 loss to the University of New England Thursday evening in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at the Nichols Athletic Center.

Junior Devon Spirka (Wilmington, Vt.) added 11 points and three assists for the Bison (6-18, 3-14 CCC), who honored their three seniors – Zophin, Kristina Lindgren (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Natalie Wilson (New Bedford, N.H.) – prior to the start of the contest.

Freshman Alanna Vose (Cushing, Maine) led four Nor'easters in double-figures with 14 points as they improved to 20-4 on the season and remained perfect in conference play at 17-0. Sophomore Kelly Coleman (Portland, Conn.) added 10 points and 10 rebounds for UNE while senior and leading-scorer Beth Suggs (Bath, Maine) filled the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

The Nor'easters led wire-to-wire, however the Bison found themselves behind by only nine at the half (29-20). Head coach Alice Mullen's squad forced 10 turnovers and outrebounded their foes from the north 27-22 in the opening 20 minutes. The Nor'easters, meanwhile, forced 18 turnovers of their own.

Leading by nine at halftime, the Nor'easters opened the second half on a 16-4 run to open up a 45-24 lead. Suggs sparked the run with six points while Vose and freshman Lauren Hayden (Chantilly, Va.) each scored four points. The lead grew to 29 on a layup by Coleman with seven minutes remaining and did not fall below 24 the rest of the way.

Wilson finished the contest with six points and a pair of boards while Lindgren had four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Hayden tallied 10 points, six rebounds and four steals for UNE.

The Bison close out the 2012-13 season on Saturday afternoon with a noon contest at Gordon, who the Bison defeated 58-47 in Dudley earlier this season. The Nor'easters attempt to complete a perfect conference season when they head to Springfield on Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest with Western New England.
