12 Different Players Score as Women's Basketball Sinks Maine-Machias, 75-48

NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 19, 2011 – The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team defeated the University of Maine-Machias, 75-48 in the second game of Saturday's Colby-Sawyer women's basketball tip-off classic.

The Chargers improve to 2-0, while the Clippers even their record at 2-2.

Colby-Sawyer's Taylor DeSanty (North Adams, Mass.) led all players with 14 points. Freshman Kelsey Bragdon (Wells, Maine) contributed 12 points and seven rebounds off the bench, while junior Stephanie Larpenter (Sunapee, N.H.) added nine points and seven boards as a reserve. Sophomore Mari Meserve (Carver, Mass.) had a game best 11 rebounds.

The Clippers were led by senior Kayla Wood (Machiasport, Maine) and junior Myra McPherson (Bradenton, Fla.) who had 12 points each. Junior guard Sabree Rodriguez (Brockton, Mass.) added eight points and nine rebounds.

Colby-Sawyer began the first half on 12-0 run over the first seven minutes and did not allow a Clippers field goal until the 11:44 mark. The Chargers led by as much as 17 in the first and controlled the paint where they held a 14-2 edge in points.

The Chargers continued to play in the painted area in the second half and extend their lead to as much as 27. Colby-sawyer also controlled the boards in the second by a 36-20 margin, resulting in a 15-2 advantage in second chance points.

The game featured a total of 59 foul shots. Colby-Sawyer was 14-28, while the Clippers were 20-31.

The Chargers will play Sage on Sunday at 3:00 pm. Maine-Machias plays Green Mountain on Sunday at 1:00 pm. Sage was a 71-60 winner over Green Mountain in Saturday's first contest.
