NEWBA Announces Weekly Awards for Nov. 27

Stapelfeld posted a trio of high-scoring performances last week for Simmons, as she averaged 28.0 points per game over three contests. Stapelfeld opened the week with 23 points, four steals and three rebounds in a 50-48 loss to Wellesley on Tuesday. In the opening game of the 20th Annual Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial Tournament against Old Westbury on Saturday, she scored 26 points to go with three boards, two assists and two steals in an 81-78 setback. Stapelfeld saved her best performance for the final game of the week, as she sank a program-record seven three-pointers on her way to a 35-point, nine-rebound, six-assist, three-steal, two-block effort as the Sharks defeated Medgar Evers College, 102-44 on Sunday. For the week, she shot 47.3 percent from the field, 65 percent from beyond the arc, and 86.4 percent from the charity stripe.

Freshman • Center • Fairfax, Va.

Perine registered a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds in Curry's lone game last week, a 67-63 victory over Fitchburg State on Tuesday. The freshman center shot 8-for-19 (42.1 percent) from the floor and added two assists and two steals in 37 minutes.

  • Nakira Examond, UMass Dartmouth (Senior | Forward | New Bedford, Mass.) - In just 16 minutes of action, Examond scored 22 points on 9-of-17 shooting, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots as the Corsairs defeated Roger Williams 88-62 on Tuesday.
  • Hannah Graham, Bowdoin (Senior | Guard | Presque Isle, Maine) - Graham scored in double figures in a pair of double-digit non-conference wins for the Polar Bears last week. In the two wins over UNE and MIT, Graham averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists while connecting on 9-13 (69.2%) of her shots from the field, including 5-7 from three-point range.  
  • Angelina Marazzi, Fitchburg State (Junior | Guard | Manchester, N.H.) - Marazzi produced a double-double with 25 points and ten rebounds to go along with two assists and five steals in a 67-63 setback to Curry College on Tuesday evening in the Falcons lone contest of the week.
  • Kelsi McNamara, Saint Joseph's (Maine) (Senior | Guard | West Newbury, Mass.) - McNamara led #17 Saint Joseph's past the University of Southern Maine with a career-high 37 points in a 71-51 road victory on Sunday evening. The senior guard shot 66.7 percent (12-18) from the field and 63.6 percent (7-11) from three-point distance en route to notching the second-highest point total in the 42-year history of the SJC women's basketball program.
  • Julia Sanborn, Framingham State (Junior | Center | Dracut, Mass.) - In Framingham State’s only game last week, Sanborn recorded 20 points (on 8-of-14 shooting), eight rebounds, two blocks and one assist as the Rams posted a 72-60 triumph over Lasell on Tuesday.
