NEWBA Announces Weekly Awards for Nov. 27

Senior guard Ama Biney of Worcester Polytechnic Institute is the Presto Sports NEWBA Player of the Week for games played from November 20-26. Biney averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and 2.5 blocks per game in a pair of wins for WPI. She opened her week with a game-high 22 points, nine boards, six steals, four assists and three blocks in a 60-33 win at Nichols on Tuesday, before posting her third career double-double with 19 points, ten rebounds, two blocks and one steal in a 60-42 victory over Bates on Saturday. She shot 63 percent from the field for the week and became WPI's 18th 1,000 point scorer against Bates.

Freshman • Forward • Norwalk, Conn.

Freshman forward Asiah Knight of Western Connecticut State earns NEWBA Rookie of the Week honors after posting a double-double in the Colonials' only game of the week, a 129-63 win over Purchase on Tuesday. Knight made 7-of-8 (87.5%) field goals and 2-of-4 free throws on her way to 16 points, while also pulling down 13 rebounds, dishing out four assists and recording one steal in 21 minutes of action.

  • Nakira Examond, UMass Dartmouth (Jr., F, New Bedford, Mass.) - Examond scored 23 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in just 17 minutes against Roger Williams on Tuesday. She shot 69 percent from the floor (9-of-13) and was a perfect 5-for-5 from the foul line while also recording three assists, two steals and one block. 
  • Amanni Fernandez, Williams (Sr., G, Queens, N.Y.) - Fernandez led Williams to a 2-0 week, as she averaged 20.0 points per game on 46.4 percent shooting from the field, 66.7 percent from beyond the arc and 80 percent from the free throw line. She also recorded 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. Fernandez's top performance came in a 71-60 win over Smith on Sunday, when she scored 25 points, grabbed four boards, and dished out four assists. 
  • Kate Kerrigan, Bowdoin (Sr., G, Wellesley Hills, Mass.) - Kerrigan averaged 15.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game in a pair of Polar Bear wins last week. She scored a game-high 18 points in Tuesday's win over UNE and finished with a double-double (12 points, 11 rebounds) in an 80-60 triumph over MIT on Saturday. For the week Kerrigan went 12-18 (67%) from the field. 
  • Jancy Sherwood, Western Connecticut (Jr., G, Poughquag, N.Y.) - In Western Connecticut State's only game of the week on Tuesday, Sherwood poured in 36 points on 50 percent shooting from the field (13-of-26), 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (6-of-16) and 100 percent from the free throw line (4-of-4) as the Colonials rolled to a 129-63 win over Purchase. She also recorded three rebounds and one steal in just 15 minutes of action. 
  • Brittany Stone, Regis (Sr., F, West Bridgewater, Mass.) - Stone posted her second consecutive double-double with 33 points (on 16-of-22 shooting), a career-high 23 rebounds and three blocks against Westfield State on Tuesday.
