NEWBA Announces Weekly Awards for December 4

Senior forward Alicia Kutil of UMass Dartmouth is the Presto Sports NEWBA Player of the Week for games played from November 27-December 3. Kutil, who was also named the Little East Conference (LEC) Player of the Week, averaged 18.0 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game in a 2-1 week for the Corsairs. She opened her week with 21 points, six boards and five assists in an 83-51 win over Bridgewater State on Tuesday, before posting her second double-double of the season with 14 points, 14 rebounds and three assists at No. 10 Bowdoin on Thursday. Kutil wrapped up her week with 19 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in a LEC triumph at Plymouth State on Saturday. Overall, she shot 51.2 percent from the field (21-of-41) and a perfect 11-of-11 from the free throw line.

Freshman • Guard • Falmouth, Mass.

Freshman guard Jenni-Rose DiCecco of Suffolk University earns NEWBA Rookie of the Week honors after helping lead the Rams to a 3-0 week while averaging 14.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game. DiCecco's top performance came on Monday, when she posted her first collegiate double-double with 28 points, ten rebounds, five steals and five assists in a 72-57 win at Curry. Later in the week, she totaled 13 points, seven boards, five assists and three steals as the Rams rolled to an 84-61 victory over Mount Ida. For the week, DiCecco shot 43.8 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from three-point distance. 

Honor Roll
  • Kristen Curley, Southern Maine (Fr., G, Gorham, Maine) - Curley averaged 21.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.0 steals, 1.5 assists, and 1.5 blocked shots per game while shooting 61.3 percent from the field, and 37.5 percent from three-point range in a 1-1 week for USM. The freshman poured in 29 points on Saturday as the Huskies defeated Western Connecticut, 86-67. 
  • Kayla Guest, St. Joseph (Conn.) (Sr., F, Newington, Conn.) - Guest  powered the Blue Jays to a 2-0 week, including a 1-0 start in GNAC action. The veteran averaged 20.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists while shooting 43.8% (14-32) from the field. She also converted at a 68.4% (13-19) clip from the free throw line. In a 74-70 come-from-behind victory over Mitchell College on the road Wednesday, Guest scored 26 points including 16 in the first half. Guest followed that up with a game-high 15 points to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists for her second double-double of the season in a 57-52 win over Lasell in USJ's GNAC opener at home on Saturday.
  • Niah Pantry, Elms (Jr., F, New Haven, Conn.) - Pantry averaged 18.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 2.0 blocks and 2.0 steals per game while posting a pair of double-doubles for the Blazers. She opened her week with 17 points, 18 boards, four blocks and three steals against Fitchburg State on Tuesday, before tallying 19 points and 12 rebounds against Becker on Saturday. 
  • Jaymesha Sanders, Newbury (Fr., F, West Haven, Conn.) - Sanders helped Newbury to a 1-1 week with averages of 17.0 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per game. She scored 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with 11 rebounds in a four-point loss at Framingham State on Wednesday, before posting a 13-point, 18-rebound effort on Saturday in a 57-35 win over Southern Vermont. 
  • Tianna Sugars, Colby-Sawyer (So., F, Oxford, Maine) - Sugars led the Chargers in a 1-1 week with 18.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game. She shot 47.8% from the floor and made 15-of-17 free throws. Sugars began the week with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds to go along with four blocks in a tough 66-59 overtime loss to undefeated Middlebury. Sugars ended the week with a game-high 21 points on 6-11 shooting in just 20 minutes of action in a 73-33 win at Green Mountain.
