Highlights From The NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 27, 2017) – Ava Adamopolous (Ludlow, Mass.) of Springfield College scored a game-high 20 points in the New England Women’s Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic on Saturday afternoon (March 25) at Mount Holyoke College’s Mildred S. Howard Gymnasium.

NEWBA Player of the Year Giovanna Pickering (Hull, Mass.) of Babson College added 12 points for the “away” team, which fell 72-64 after erasing eight points from its 40-24 halftime deficit. The “home” team was led by Maria Jackson (Rochester, N.Y.) of Brandeis University, who led three players in double figures with 16 points. Framingham State’s Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Keene State’s Stephanie D’Annolfo (Tyngsborough, Mass.) chipped in with 14 and ten points, respectively.

The home team, which led 15-13 after one quarter of play, extended its advantage to 16 at the break with the help of six second period points from D’Annolfo and four each from Rackliffe and Jackson. Adamopolous took over in the second half, scoring six points in the third quarter and eight in the fourth, but the visitors were unable to overcome their halftime deficit.
