Jen Ashton of the Westfield State University is the NEWBA/Prestosports Player of the Week for January 26.  Ashton drilled a pair of free throws with 1.9 seconds left in regulation against Worcester State to force OT in a game that Westfield would win 67-65. For the week, she averaged 19 points, 5.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 6.0 steals per game in a pair of conference tilts as the Owls improved to 13-4 and 5-0 in the MASCAC.

Grace Geary
UMass Boston
Freshman • Guard • Falmouth, Mass.

Geary continued to dominate the rest of the Little East Conference by posting a team-high 23 points per game to lead the Beacons to a 1-1 week against conference foes. The freshman guard also added six rebounds, 3.5 assists and 4.0 steals per game while playing all 80 minutes. In Tuesday's loss at UMass Dartmouth, Geary poured in a career-high 28 points on 11-of-24 shooting and added seven rebounds and six assists against the top-team in the LEC. She helped the Beacons salvage a season-split against Keene State on Sunday, when she scored 12 of her game-high 18 points in a 75-56 win over the Owls.

  • Meghan Ronaghan,  UMass Dartmouth (So., F, North Attleboro, Mass.) - Ronaghan led the Corsairs to a 3-0 week by averaging 22 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game.  She started the week collecting 26 points and 10 boards in a Little East Conference win over UMass Boston, then added 21 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots in a non-conference win over Framingham State.  She ended the week with 19 points and 12 rebounds in a win over conference for Plymouth State University.
  • Aliah Curry, Norwich University (Sr., G, Windsor, Mass.) - Senior guard Curry wrote her name into the Norwich record books as the first women's basketball player to surpass 2,000 points.  Curry started the week with a 17 point game in a tough loss to Suffolk University before posting a strong performance against the College of St. Joseph’s of Vermont. The Windsor, Mass. native shot 58.3 percent from the field (7-12) and nailed a pair of three-pointers for 31 points to lead the Cadets to victory with a 79-52 score.  She reach the 2,000 point plateau as part of a 27 point effort against Johnson & Wales.
  • Mairead Hynes, Connecticut College (Fr., F, Mahopac, N.Y.) - Connecticut College forward Mairead Hynes helped lead the Camels to a pair of NESCAC wins in a 2-1 week. Hynes opened the week with a 10 point, eight rebound effort in a 54-35 triumph over Middlebury. Hynes exploded with a career-high 36 points and grabbed 17 rebounds in an 87-76 overtime loss at Rhode Island College Thursday. Saturday, Hynes helped the Camels erase a 10 point deficit at Wesleyan, finishing with 23 points, 13 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. For the week, Hynes connected at a 56% clip from the field (24-43) and shot 78% from the charity stripe (21-for-28). 
  • Amber Legare, Mount Holyoke College (Sr., F, Chicopee, Mass.) - Legare helped lead the Lyons to a 1-1 week, boasting a double-double of 21.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per contest. She also recorded a team-best three blocks, including a game-high two in MHC's victory over Clark. Additionally, she notched her 10th & 11th double-double of the season, including a game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds in a loss to Babson.
  • Jade Desroches, Castleton State College (Sr., G, Berkshire, Vt.) - Desroches helped the Spartans stay perfect in the NAC (10-0), leading the team to three wins while averaging 18.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 4.0 steals per game. Against second place New England College, the guard posted 14 points, two rebounds and two steals to help the Spartans win by 15 points. She followed it up with 30 points, including 21 in the first half, eight rebounds, seven steals and four assists to lead Castleton over UMF, 67-57. Desroches finished her week with 11 points, six assists, three rebounds and three steals as the Spartans built an early lead before winning by 19 points.
